About Me

My name is Jasmine. When I was 12 years old, I told my dad that I finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up—a writer. Unlike most kids in my Los Angeles classrooms, who fawned over Dr. Seuss, I gravitated toward Edgar Allan Poe. As a Baltimore, Maryland native, it made sense.

In no specific order, words and tacos are two factors of my life that I’ve stayed committed to.

I am the West Baltimore neighborhood and community reporter for The Baltimore Banner, a relatively new digital media outlet. Baltimore is a city of neighbors and I write stories that celebrate those distinctions. Maybe it’s a local bar in Pigtown that celebrates any caliber of good news or two brothers in Reservoir Hill who got to see a historic NASA mission. Through storytelling, I hope to knock down borders and connect neighborhoods.

I am also a Maynard 200 Fellow with the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education and a member of Poynter’s November 2021 cohort for the Power of Diverse Voices workshop. In 2021, I was awarded first place for a collection of columns in Division III of the Professional Keystone Media Awards.

Let’s connect.
